Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Walt Disney and Thomas Watson are notables that Steve Jobs can be compared to. Jobs might be America's greatest failure. Yes, a great failure who learned and persevered, to become maybe the greatest busineessman of his generation.

I first heard about his passing on this blog and was a bit shocked to hear he was gone. Steve Jobs likely represents the last great triumph of the 20th century corporate entrepreneur, a great marketer and details guy who wasn't very technical, yet maniacal about protecting Apple's "innovations," either through licensing or their many patents. As the large corporation dies off in the coming decades, with Apple currently the largest corporation in the world, he will be remembered as the last great founder-CEO of the post-industrial era, the last to abuse the concept of a corporation to build something so big and unwieldy.
