NY Times -- "The recent arrests of vendors in Chinatown accused of selling an illegal, highly potent pesticide apparently smuggled from China opened a window on the underground trade in chemicals used to combat roaches, rats and other vermin in New York City's immigrant neighborhoods."

Why not just let people buy something safe like DDT so that they can actually get rid of the bugs that are infesting the places where they live?

Given how it's from China, they could scoop up the water in any large town over there for a pesticide. The problem is that pesticide would kill everything.
