I can't figure out why they gave the poor bastard 8 years to begin with. He wasn't drunk and it wasn't intentional. WTF?
Racism against East Asians. If he were black or Muslim, he would have gotten off.
In this case, the victim's family are showing their greed.
Mechanical system fail and some times it's the simplest parts.
The US has lost 2 of 5 space shuttles. Both losses were from failures of a simple part.

Did Firestone apologize for killing people with their tires?
"Did Firestone apologize for killing people with their tires?"...
Interesting question and maybe Ford was in large part culpable also...
From CNN Money: Bridgestone/Firestone acknowledges there were design and manufacturing problems on its end, but says the design of the Ford Explorer contributed to the deaths. It released data Monday showing the Explorer has five-to-10 times as many tire failure claims as Ford Ranger pick-up trucks with the same tires...
Why would he get 8 years? Perhaps because he was convicted of killing three people.
Not a day goes by when I don't see cars driving recklessly, speeding, or running red lights or stop signs. If you willfully do these things and you kill a pedestrian, bicyclist, or a car passenger you are a murderer.
The problem is that we treat cars differently than every other deadly weaopn. If I killed someone carelessly firing my handgun in every direction, I'd be arrested for homicide. If I swung a large chain in a circle around me and hit someone in the head, I'd be arrested for homicide.
Motorcyclists call car drivers "cagers" because of the reckless disregard for others they have because of the metal cage they have around them.
If this Toyota ran away, I hope he's acquitted. If he was driving recklessly, he should have to spend the rest of his life in prison.
Is he Hmong? There is a particular animosity there for Hmong. On the other hand, the animosity exists because they are aggressive.
America and world do view the Hmong as disposable people. After so many died saving America pilots while we were bombing Laos, we abandoned them to a fate of the Soviets practicing aerial chemicals warfare on them while the UN looked the other way.
But what does racism have to do with a stuck accelerator. The cops did say they checked the brakes. But did they pull the accelerator cable and see if there was a fray that might of held opened the throttle or check the spring on the throttle butterfly to see if it could close the throttle.
Cops aren't the brightest people and I have a tough time believing that the Hmong take their families out for a day of Sunday reckless driving though red light intersections.

Reckless Sunday's are a common practice among the crazy Hnong.
