MP: Calculating real GDP growth from the same quarter a year ago, the fourth quarter of 2008 isn't as bad as most other post-WWII recessions.

The Minnie Fed chart is now interactive.

Of the 10 prior post-war recessions, 5 were shallower, 1 was tied and 4 were worse after 4 quarters.

When the GDP data is in the record books for the first half of 2009 (6 quarters in total), only the 1973 and 1981 recessions will be competitive with this recession.

did the FED in prior GDP declines increase its balance sheet similar to what it is doing today?
