Comments Restored

This morning CD was hit with a spam attack about 9 a.m. ET, and I had to temporarily change the comment setting to stop the incoming spam advertisements from being posted to every CD post.   Now that the attack has been foiled, the comment policy is back to normal.

Man, those spammers are annoying!

I wonder, just throwing this out there, but if you had a comment system similar to that at Cafe Hayek where you need a Facebook account to post comments, would that stop the problem?

I am assuming, however, that you view this as a large enough problem to consider a radical change to the blog.

Um...No, Jon. The Cafe was spammed a few days ago. Did you miss the well-endowed and scantily clad lady advertising old women to young men in the comment section?

And it's trivial for spammers to get a Facebook account.

"you need a Facebook account to post comments"...

What if not everyone is sucked in by the shallow attraction of facebook?

I will now have the Monty Python Spam song ringing in my head all day. (could be worse I guess)

I heard the spammers were located at a hostel located somewhere in San Fransico. One person's "aspiring tech entrepreneur is often another person's spammer.

There's always Barry Manilow's "Copacabana"

Dr. Perry,

I was just skimming through and saw a comment posted (two above this one) from Mike. Speaking of hackers and spam and login...shouldn't each commenter have a unique name to avoid confusion?
As far as I know, I'm the only "Mike" here.

Facebook commenting is miserable, because FB doesn't respect HTML. No bolding, quoting, or links. FB commenting is a terrible choice.

That's why I started using my (presumably real) last name and a picture. At first, I was just "Jon", then there was another nutjob named "Jon." To separate my comments from his paranoid rantings, I added the name and picture.

Jon Murphy,

aaaah....I didn't know. Well, I'll wait and see what the other Mike has to say. If he turns out to be smart, I'll take credit for his posts.
For now, anything posted under "Mike" that you believe to be idiotic, feel free to assume it's the new guy.
