Some UC-Berkeley Students Defend (Oppose) Race-Based Preferences for Admissions But Oppose (Defend) Race-Based Preferences for Bake Sale

BERKELEY -- "University of California-Berkeley student senators voted Sunday to condemn discriminatory behavior on campus - even if done in satire - in response to a Republican student group's plans for an "Increase Diversity Bake Sale," with pastries labeled according to race and gender. The 19-0 vote, with one absence, came during a special meeting of the Associated Students of the University of California, as the debate over affirmative action reignited in Berkeley.

"The bill that emerged from the student senators did not punish the group, or even name it, but referred to the power of a separate Judiciary Council to defund any campus group found to be discriminatory ... "The ASUC," the bill reads, "condemns the use of discrimination whether it is in satire or in seriousness by any student group."

This will come as a blow to all of the ethnic and gender studies departments and race and gender based student unions and associations.

Of course, what is really disturbing is that none of these people is able to see the racist nature of affirmative action policies. UC Berkeley, Gov. Brown and the Democrats in the state legislature are loudly stating their belief that certain minorities just can't cut it unless they are given special consideration. And the minority students, rather than taking offense, rally to affirm their support of this premise.

There may have been a time when this sort of thing would have gotten a rise out of me. But, honestly, does California even matter anymore? Can anyone take any liberal, Left Coast position seriously. The voters of California keep making the same choices for leadership, and digging themselves further in the hole of financial ruin. I say good riddance to bad rubbish. The only thing that could come out of CA that will get a rise out of me, is when they come begging the Fed for a "bailout" once their state economy completely collapses.

I think this shows just how little the school actually teaches students about business and recognizing holes in the marketplace.
If I were American Indian, I'd set up a booth next to the muffins and offer my service to white students...buy for a quarter, sell for a dollar, everybody wins if they work together. I suppose that's too complicated for college work.

Actually, this is reflective of America's ruling political class. If morons like these get to be the future leaders or train the future leaders what hope is there?
