Mao's Communist Legacy in China: 45m Deaths

"The worst catastrophe in China’s history, and one of the worst anywhere, was the Great Famine of 1958 to 1962, and to this day the ruling Communist Party has not fully acknowledged the degree to which it was a direct result of the forcible herding of villagers into communes under the “Great Leap Forward” that Mao Zedong launched in 1958.

To this day, the party attempts to cover up the disaster, usually by blaming the weather. Yet detailed records of the horror exist in the party’s own national and local archives.

Historians have known for some time that the Great Leap Forward resulted in one of the world’s worst famines. Demographers have used official census figures to estimate that some 20 to 30 million people died.

In all, the records I studied suggest that the Great Leap Forward was responsible for at least 45 million deaths."

~"Mao's Great Leap to Famine," in the New York Times, by Frank Dikötter, professor at the University of Hong Kong.

Secular Big Government kills more than all others combined. The Left, claiming that what is needed is a fair and just leader, begs to be given another chance.

Murder By Communism

'In sum the communist probably have murdered something like 110,000,000, or near two-thirds of all those killed by all governments, quasi-governments, and guerrillas from 1900 to 1987'...

So it seems that China garnered almost 50% of all the deaths...

Wow!

The same Communist Party is still in charge of China today. Investor beware.

Anyone who thinks that Communist/Socialist governments 'mean well' are fools. Plain and simple.

In fact, I would go so far as to say that the elitists who want to take over student lending, institute single-payer and reduce freedoms one-by-one do NOT care about anything other than power.
Michael Moore is one of their best propagandists.

Fun to watch the process in Venezuela as Chavez grabs more property and power. The Left admires leaders that can claim, hold and project power. Michael Moore, Oliver Stone and Sean Penn are giddy with Chavez. Thomas Friedman, after receiving VIP treatment in China, runs back with praise for Chinese Communist. Some have insatiable need to be liked.

I remember having a chat with an old man in Yunnan province about how things had changed during his life. He praised Mao for ending the great suffering and mentioned a time when things were so bad that people were eating dead children. Families would swap corpses so that nobody had to eat his/her own child in order to survive. While I was listening to his horrid tale I realized that the period he credits Mao for ending was actually created by his policies in the 1950s.

It had many people who could die because of terrible government policies.
