Smackdown: Michael Moore vs. Dr. Sanjay Gupta
Washington Post -- President-elect Barack Obama has offered the job of surgeon general to Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the neurosurgeon and correspondent for CNN and CBS, according to two sources with knowledge of the situation. Gupta has told administration officials that he wants the job, and the final vetting process is under way. He has asked for a few days to figure out the financial and logistical details of moving his family from Atlanta to Washington but is expected to accept the offer.
MP: Good choice, President-elect Obama. Reason? Dr. Gupta exposed many of the distortions in Michael Moore's movie "Sicko":

The thing is with that WTO ranking it has two major problems that make it deceiving.
1. It is bias towards state run systems in of itself. One of the criteria is a dummy variable where government care gets a plus in of itself.
2. One of the criteria that is weighed heavily is performance adjusted for "expectations" which is based on past performance. So the US does poorly there because it should better. So this ranking is not an absolute ranking but an adjusted one.
These two factors are why Columbia scored better than the US in that ranking even though it is obvious that Columbia's system is not anywhere close to as good as the US. Take these European/ international organizations which have a large government bias int heir thinking with a grain of salt.
I just got to the end of this. Did I hear him right saying that we "Do social security well"? What a complete idiot.
EJ,
My wife is Colombian and has several doctor friends. She moved here in 2005 and would completely agree with you.
You can piss and moan about what Moore had to say but the Global competitive economy is forcing the U.S. to go to some sort of single payer system. All the major trading Countries have some form of natioanal health care and those costs are no longer a burden to their Companies there-fore to compete the tax payer will have to take over what our Corporations used to provide. Just another concession that we will have to take to continue the pledge of our Politicians:" the U.S.Constitution is of ,by and for the Corporation.
Simply calling someone names is not a viable argument, is a waste of everyone's time, and is beneath the dignity of this blog.
In a free society, we should be thankful that we have have the first amendment and people like Moore who force us to critically examine our institutions and systems, which invariably results in improvements.

Well gee jefferson, Venezuela or Cuba is the place for you...
You think some sort of national health care program might be a good thing?
May suggest that you visit your nearest VA hospital and watch the 'junior version' of national health care in action...
