Imported Pizzas from Missouri Destroy Local D.C. Jobs and Create A Huge Carbon Footprint

When you're the president of the United States, only the best pizza will do, even if it means flying a chef 860 miles from St. Louis to D.C.

Obviously, President Obama doesn't yet understand or support
Backyard Economics, and must not realize that imported pizza from Missouri will destroy local jobs in D.C.

And shouldn't the President be concerned about the carbon footprint for pizzas flown in from 860 miles away? According to TerraPass, it would be about 645 lbs. of CO2 per person for the roundtrip St. Louis-Washington, D.C. flight.

The chef was already going to D.C. on a business trip:

"I spoke with the restaurant's manager, John Fitzgerald, and he gave me some things that we call "facts," ones that cast Sommers' trip in an entirely different light [..] he had already planned a business trip to DC, so the restaurant paid for his travel [..] Chris Sommers [the chef] is one of the most dedicated people he knows to the environmental cause.

In fact, his restaurant buys carbon credits from a wind farm in Colorado.

Not only that, they recycle about 75% of their waste.

Not only that, John himself is going into the green building business. You couldn't find a worse case for environmental hypocrisy.

Finally, Barack Obama isn't saddling the American taxpayer with the tab for this feast. He's picking up the tab, for local ingredients, out of his own pocket."

Fun to watch the left twist and turn to justify anything... in the green building business, carbon credits from a wind farm in CO, dedicated to the cause, actually paid for something out of his own pocket... ah, like everyone else.

A rule of life: things that we make g_ds will become demons (C.S. Lewis).

If you follow the link to Ace's post, he said otherwise.

The chef going to D.C. on a business trip is important context for "pizzas flown in from 860 miles away". Also note "local ingredients".

Well as one who's suffered through a swill session at PI resturant all I can say is that the Obama's choice of food just sucks!

Of course there's an apologist out there trying to make the argument sans anything credible that the swill chef was already going to D.C. from someone named Fitzgerald who works at PI...

Then again its obvious Tommy Christopher suffers from a long and undistinguished career at spinning...

Sorry, Gherald. All we're going to remember from the recitation of facts from the link you provided is that the President had someone fly from St. Louis to DC to make pizza. In these supposedly populist times, that's not a good thing to be doing.

And considering the pizza isn't Chicago deep-dish pizza, this luxury is even more egregious.
