"Jet Man" Stunts Alongside Fighter Jets Over Alps

Update 1: As Morganovich comments, you might want to put this on your Christmas list.

dear santa-
for christmas i would like...
Don't believe it. No way those 4 canisters provided that much power for that long.
well.. it's like a lot of other stuff that appears in CD....
unbelievable... and deservedly so...
;-)
Jet Man Home Page.
re: Jet Man Home Page.
I don't doubt that he flew....
but I seriously doubt..with Jets... and for any serious distance.
we have drones now, right?
;-)
"No way those 4 canisters provided that much power for that long."
They are jet engines. Fuel in the wings. Nothing unbelievable about this.
range / top speed / cruise speed?
Come on guys. He's been flying that thing for years now. Interesting but not new.

larry, if you had done 2 seconds of research before all your dubious questions and disparaging of CD, you'd have found the link above precisely 1 click behind buddy's link which answers all your questions.
Morg.. I saw that... but if you look at the photo... it shows him flying with jets....
at what altitude, speed, and range?
my point is that what was presented was misleading...
.. which I think is not an untypical habit of (some) CD posts.... anyhow...
It does not say the jets are maxed out. they can fly pretty slow.
I wonder how he keeps warm.
Nowhere near as crazy as these guys. Base jumping in wing suits, flying parallell to a cliff, and close enough to touch it.
http://vimeo.com/1778399
he basically has 10 minutes in the air at about 100-150 miles an hour and can go less than 20 miles.
try throttling a fighter jet back to 100 miles an hour.
this is a perfect example of something that is real... but the suggested premise - i.e. "flying with the jets" is so unrealistic as to really question why the video purported to show that to start with.
I think one of the slowest military jet in the world is the Warthog that flies typically at 300-400 miles an hour - twice as fast as the top speed of jet man.
In other words.. he could not keep up with a very slow jet much less the typical fighter jet.
yet..that's what the video seems to show....
oh it's soooooo WRONG!
larry-
i think you are just being overly picayune.
he flew next to jets. you can see the picture.
all your nonsense about jet speed and range etc is just a silly straw man.
it's not like anyone claimed this was a new way to commute.
clearly he DID fly next to jets. you can see the pictures. the wing will do 300 kph (180mph) in a shallow dive, way over most jets stall speeds.
you are making all kinds of bizarre tinfoil hat claims that he didn't, when he very clearly did.
look at the wings on those jets. they are straight, not swept. such wings allow for slower flight without stall. hell, you can do the same in an f-14 and that's a really heavy plane. ever watch the blue angels? they can fly VERY slowly.
you seem to be making up a whole pile of claims that no one made and then objecting to them.
seems like you are just chasing your tail for no reason i can figure out.
FWIW, a warthog has a stall speed of 120. it's also incredibly heavy because it is armored and carries a huge amount of weaponry.
take out the cannot and the hardened carry points and make the engines smaller and lighter as a result, and stall speed would drop under 100, easily within reach of this wing.
it seems like you just want to get your knickers in a twist for some reason.
what was misleading?
what inaccurate claims were made anywhere but in your mind?
if you want to say that with him flying at his top speed while having jets fly at stall speed....
that the man is "flying with jets"...
then I agree....
but the article did not point this out and showing the video without pointing out that what he was doing was not typical...not normal... but basically a bleeding-edge "stunt" ..in my mind ...illustrates how many ideas here get promoted ... a kernel of truth depicted in a context depicted as a bigger truth when in fact, it's not.
I'm not yet convinced that the videos was not altered...
and geeze Morg... are you saying that these jets were actually flying at stall speed so the video looked "real"?
tsk tsk
"but basically a bleeding-edge "stunt" ..in my mind ...illustrates how many ideas here get promoted ... a kernel of truth depicted in a context depicted as a bigger truth when in fact, it's not."
uh, i don't think this was presented as anything other than a bleeding edge stunt. seriously, how else could you possibly characterize it? alternately, if this is not a stunt, then what on earth would meet your definition.
as i believe is quite common knowledge, i have absolutely no issue taking CD posts or comments to them to task for not portraying facts correctly/honestly/in context, but i just don;t see that here.
the whole point if this is that it's a stunt.
it's not like anyone made a claim that this was a new way to commute or anything.
breitling does this BECAUSE it's a stunt. they do it for PR.
you are essentially going to the circus and claiming that trapeze artists are misleading.
if the jets stall at 100 and the guy can fly at up to 180, there's a ton of overlap. they were obviously not right at stall as they banked.
i really have no idea what you are trying to get at here larry.
what "claims" do you think were made? it's just a video of a circus act.
you're right MOrg.. we got our panties in a twist on this...
;-)
"but the article did not point this out and showing the video without pointing out that what he was doing was not typical...not normal... but basically a bleeding-edge "stunt" ."
Of course it's a bleeding edge stunt. Why do you have a problem with that? It's an amazing video.
What, if anything, would you consider "normal" about flying at 180mph at that altitude in a one person jet wing?
Perhaps he should be required to post a "truth in flying" disclaimer at the beginning of the video.
Get over yourself.
