Quote of the Day

Now, let me get this straight.....We are going to pass a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it but exempts themselves from it, to be signed by a president that also hasn't read it and who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes…all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's nearly broke. What could possibly go wrong?

Ah, sage advise from J. Q. Public!

Thought J.Q. Public was of no matter to current politicians? Next November J.Q. Public will be dispensing sage advise at the ballot box.

Billl Clinton is getting $12 million for his memoirs. Hillary got $8 million for hers. That's $20 million for the memories from two people, who for eight years, repeatedly testified, under oath, that they couldn't remember anything.

Men who look upon themselves as born to reign, and others to obey, soon grow insolent; selected from the rest of mankind their minds are early poisoned by importance; and the world they act in differs so materially from the world at large, that they have but little opportunity of knowing its true interests, and when they succeed to the government are frequently the most ignorant and unfit of any throughout the dominions.

I am happy to see the health care bill bashed.

The 2010 Defense Authorization bill was 648 pages, and authorized about $1 billion per page. Who read it?

http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=111_cong_bills&docid=f:h2647enr.txt.pdf

Here is some of the text:

SEC. 1071. EXTENSION OF CERTAIN AUTHORITY FOR MAKING REWARDS FOR COMBATING TERRORISM.
Section 127b(c)(3)(C) of title 10, United States Code, is amended by striking ‘‘2009’’ and inserting ‘‘2010’’. SEC. 1072. BUSINESS PROCESS REENGINEERING.
(a) NEWPROGRAMS.—Section 2222 of title 10, United States
Code, is amended—
(1) in subsection (a)—
(A) by redesignating paragraphs (1) and (2) as paragraphs (2) and (3), respectively;
(B) by inserting before paragraph (2), as redesignated by subparagraph (A) of this subsection, the following new paragraph (1):
‘‘(1) the appropriate chief management officer for the defense business system modernization has determined whether or not—
‘‘(A) the defense business system modernization is in compliance with the enterprise architecture developed under subsection (c); and
‘‘(B) appropriate business process reengineering efforts have been undertaken to ensure that—
H.R.2647—282
‘‘(i) the business process to be supported by the
defense business system modernization will be as
streamlined and efficient as practicable; and
‘‘(ii) the need to tailor commercial-off-the-shelf systems to meet unique requirements or incorporate unique interfaces has been eliminated or reduced to the maximum extent practicable;’’;

Oh, I am sure every Congressman read and understands that. That was about 0.015 percent of the text of the bill.

What does it mean "exempts themselves" from it? I've seen this on a lot of junk spam e-mails people have been sending me.

Like USSR with a two tiered system - the central planners and everybody else. Work hard and study so you can be a central planner and enjoy the fruits of someone else's labor.

"What does it mean to exempt themselves from this bill?"

They have their own sweetheart All-Inclusive insurance plan that they and their families get on on the taxpayers dime (like everything else) for the rest of their lives...

Yes, even one-term twits.

Trust me - buy every pitchfork you and get your hands on.

You make it sound like this was somewhat exceptional. Bills much more expensive and much more important have been passed with the exact same procedures (even during your favourite ggovernment).

It is true that members of Congress have a health insurance plan paid for by the government. What exactly does the bill exempt them from? The only requirement that I am aware of in the bill is that there is a penalty if one doesn't have health insurance.

You good old boys had your chance. Eight years most of it with complete control of Congress. Chose to do absolutely nothing with it but bankrupt us. Most of the $12 trillion (about $10 trillion of it) was spent on your watch.

Get over it.
