Fabulous. Shows the absurdity of how government would provide any service. A nightmare for real people, nirvana for big-government types.

13 weeks? Canadian wait times suggest otherwise

My husband has been waiting for a referral to a back surgeon since fall 2008. Just received a very polite letter asking if he would like to participate in a study to evaluate how wait times are impacting quality of life (QOL) for patients. A post-it note gives the appointment date at April 27, 2010.

His previous experience with wait times for treatment was an 8 months wait (32 weeks) for an MRI during that time, his shoulder injury became inoperable. He no longer can lift his right arm above 90 degrees or push with his arm (ie. using a power drill, painting a ceiling, lifting anything onto a high shelf). The original injury (a radical tear in the rotator cuff) could have been fixed surgically.

Would appreciate any suggestions regarding spinal care. My husband's case is a complex one...advanced spinal stenosis, a crushed vertebrae with difflection of the spine at L3-L5, and distention of 2 discs.

Any of these factors could be creating the present difficulties which include chronic pain, numbness in the thigh, and difficulty walking long distances.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.
