Fighting Off the Somali Pirates

Solution #1: High-Tech Equipment -- The recent escalation in pirate attacks has highlighted the vulnerability of shipping off the coast of Somalia. Now many ships are taking their own precautions, using hi-tech equipment to keep pirates at bay.

Solution #2: Bounty Hunters -- Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) and a growing number of national security experts are calling on Congress to consider using letters of marque and reprisal, a power written into the Constitution that allows the United States to hire private citizens to keep international waters safe.

OK, So the Wealth Redistributionist’s (Pirates) have full blown fire power such as Rocket Launchers and our ships have a fire hose and a fence? Why not use sleigh shots that shoot marshmallows?

Hire a private Company like Executive Solutions to secure these ships.

Funny that while Congress is busy inventing new powers not provided for in the Constitution that there is simply no way they would ever authorize something like this that is explicitly provided for.

Easy:

Any Somalia skiff more than 10 miles from shore gets a fly over by a Predator drone.

Full of fishing nets, continue surveillance.

No fishing nets, sink it immediately.

There is no good reason to take a small boat so far from shore.

US National Reconnaissance Office has a satellite laser scan that can plot the movements of the dingy carrying the pirates. Small French Frigate can then police up the suspicious wanderers for trial in Parisian court on charges of illicit armed wandering. A few of these dragnets will put the word out that the game is over. This will save a lot of lives. Our allies from Persian Gulf will just love it. Same device was used to detect arms build up just before Falkland Islands were invaded when A H was Secretary of State.

Maybe shipowners should give Metal Storm a call...

save_the_rustbelt has a solution that should defiinitely be part of the strategy sink the large non-fishing boat mother ships.

AMATI NONYMUS might have to high an opinion of our capabilities. I remember going out in dinghies as a kid. Should we destroy or capture all individuals on dinghies? No, but a 10 mile limit that is well publicized should be enforced. The French must be applauded but the neighboring Middle-East countries should be very paying for this effort to enforce this 10 mile limit corridor.

so what's the incentive for private citizens to do this? I mean, I think it worked before when private citizens were able to take the booty from fairly wealthy cargo ships. I doubt these pirates would have enough on board to keep private citizens afloat in their endeavor.

Or are shipping companies going to pay them as security?

That's right. Satellite tracks the dinghies that go past the 10 mile (1st down yellow line). Those going faster are policed up first and inspected for weapons. You have seen satellite photos from Google that show individual autos, trees, etc? NRA has much finer resolution coherence optical scan.that can visualize unconcealed weapons before frigate arrives.

The game is over.

Uhh, maybe two high powered rifles per ship should do it. Don't even need automatics, a semi or bolt action should be sufficient. Range it what you need, and penetrating power. AP rounds would help.

If a small vessel is harassing you and won't run off from the water hoses and warnings, put a couple rounds in their motor. Situation over.

That said, to be perfectly fair, damage to their fishing industry should be evaluated. Nations doing most of the poaching should reimburse the local fishing industry then vacate the premises to allow the pirates and would be pirates to return to peaceful industry. True Americans should always recognize both sides of the coin.

God bless America
