How Did The Dismal Science Become So Popular?

Hundreds of economic blogs have sprung up on the Internet, many written by academics. What gives? How did economics become so popular?

I think that basic economics should be taught in high school. The fact that these blogs exist and that people read them shows that people are interested.

Keep up the good work! I love this blog.

This is my first economics "course". I'm really enjoying my education. Thanks for your efforts.

The real question is why did the academics get it so wrong?

my kids were taught economics in high school. in looking over the text book, i found it not too different from the econ 101 i took in college. who says we have bad public schools?

bobble,

Do you know if all the students in your kid's high school were required to take economics or was it just those in college prep?

We did not take economics when I was in high school - almost 30 yrs ago.

hi bob,

i also did not take econ in HS, 40 years ago. it wasn't even offered. my son says econ was required for all students, not just college prep.

my kids graduated from HS 2 and 5 years ago. they were on a college prep track. i think that much of the curriculum they had in high school was college level material 30-40 years ago.

it really upsets me when people say that our public schools are failing. maybe some are, but many are vastly improved from when we went to school.
