Climate Alarmism: Czech President Compares Global Warming Propoganda to Communism
Washington -- Czech President Vaclav Klaus said Tuesday he is ready to debate Al Gore about global warming, as he presented the English version of his latest book that argues environmentalism poses a threat to basic human freedoms.
Klaus, an economist, said he opposed the "climate alarmism" perpetuated by environmentalism trying to impose their ideals, comparing it to the decades of communist rule he experienced growing up in Soviet-dominated Czechoslovakia.
"Like their (communist) predecessors, they will be certain that they have the right to sacrifice man and his freedom to make their idea reality," he said.
"In the past, it was in the name of the Marxists or of the proletariat - this time, in the name of the planet," he added. "It could be even true that we are now at a stage where mere facts, reason and truths are powerless in the face of the global warming propaganda."

Klaus is right, bravo!. It is a fact that marxists are now mainly behind the global warming propaganda. It is also true that this may get more of a potential threat to human rights than communism because it leads to legislation based on future uncomfirmed threats.
But not only marxists are the cause of the propaganda. privatization of public utilities calls for increased shareholder value through price increases and that must be justified to the consumer by governments or they pay political cost. So they use marxists to do the dirty job for them.
Is protecting the planet the real goal or is this just a useful tool for anti-globalization, big labour & extreme left wing activists to attack capitalism and large corporations? Isn't it just another way to skin a cat?
If you actually read some of the rhetoric coming out of the environmental activist community, you come across folks like Liz Benneian of the Post-Petroleum Action Committee for example:
"we need more fear not less"
"we need to cast a wider net, draw others into our arena"
"we have to create an alternative power base"
"If you ask me it is economists who are voodoo priests, pulling projections for growth and economic development from out of the air, conjuring the wonders of market forces and other so-called corrective agents to save us from ourselves. It is economists and the leaders of multinational corporations and big business who are offering up the nonsensical magic that the ponzi scheme of continuous growth, in a world of finite resources, a world with hard limits on water, energy, breatable air, is not only possible but necessary".
The same forum outlined strategies for infiltrating local community groups to try to build an alternative power base to challenge the democratically elected government. Normally, one expects someone with convictions to run for election and to allow their ideas to be subjected to the rigors of an open debate.
What is most disturbing about the climate change debate is the attempts to silence all debate and the extent to which ad hominem has replaced any semblance of a scientific examination of evidence. Klaus is correct...global warming is about power and politics not science.

This event, if it happens, should be on every network -- like a state of union address or the like. I have this pleasant feeling that it could really be a game changer in this debate.
Of course, it's more likely that we'll hear (endangered species) crickets chirping as Ozone Man's response to this challenge.
If only we could ever elect an economist, to anything.
Hey Mark,
Very interesting post about raising oil prices and general public's feeling that 'something needs to be done'.
